I’m Back!

I’ve neglected my blog for TOO LONG! But I really do have a good excuse… I had another baby! Eleanor is now 1 and Audrey is 2.5 and I finally feel like I have my feet back under me.

This last year we have been getting by on the basics. With two tiny children trying new foods for the first time (one who only now has 6 teeth) I like to keep it simple. We’ve mostly been eating scrambled eggs, yogurt, fruit smoothies, toast, roast chicken, salad, rice and avocados…lots of avocados! I don’t remember making anything that was blog worth. I was generally impressed with myself just for getting out of bed and adulting everyday.

My kids don’t like spicy foods (yet). Audrey does keep dipping her little fingers in sriracha and then bravely licking it off. Moments later I usually find her guzzling down some milk. But I 100% appreciate that kind of commitment to trying something new. Plus, since the menu has been so bland & boring I was really excited to make some homemade kimchi & kraut [see next post for details/recipe].

Diane Kennedy & Cherry Velvet Photo Shoot Day :)

Today I got to model for Diane Kennedy and Cherry Velvet!  It was so much fun.  We were shooting at Dr. Sun Yat Sen Classical Chinese Garden in Vancouver, B.C.  It was a gorgeous day and the location was beautiful!  Many more photos to come…

Anniversary Dinner

Tonight me and my hubby are going out to celebrate our third wedding anniversary. It’s not technically the day (actual anniversary is August 26th) but when Grandma offers to babysit, you take advantage of it!  I’m wearing a blue Diane Kennedy t-shirt, black jeans from Winners, and a Very Valero necklace.

These jeans were such a steal!  I found them for $11 at Winner’s but they had these awful big, blingy rhinestones on all the pockets and buttons.  I took them to my dry cleaner who also does alterations and she ripped them all off and added just one big black button.  The alterations cost $10 but it was worth it because I love the fit of these jeans.

I actually started dating my husband when I was 15 years old and in grade 10!  It’s freaky but true.  We grew up as neighbours on the same street in a small B.C. town and I was totally obsessed with him right from the start.

Tonight we are baby free and have some gift certificates to The Keg which have been patiently waiting to be used.  Nom nom nom doesn’t steak taste even better when you aren’t paying for it?

Port Coquitlam Show & Shine

Today me and my fam jam hit up the Port Coquitlam Show & Shine and envied all the cool, classic cars.  Apparently I am a Chevrolet girl.  I loved all the Corvettes!

But what the heck PoCo…where were all the pin-up girls!?  I would have loved to pose beside some of these babies!  IMG_0881.JPG

Another Day, Another Outfit

Today I am wearing my favourite jeans…Second Clothing Co. YOGA jeans.  They are so comfortable and 100% Canadian made.  Can’t beat that!  The top is super comfy but I don’t know that much about it…my Aunty Sally gave it to my Mom, who gave it to me.  IMG_0883.JPG

Homemade Pizza

Who loves pizza?!?!  Well now you can love it even more because I am going to give you a fool proof dough recipe that you probably have all the ingredients for already.  Horray!  Cheap, homemade pizza!

IMG_0745.JPG

The dough:

– 2.5 teaspoons active dry yeast
– 1 teaspoon white sugar
– 1 cup warm water
– 2.5 cups all purpose flour
– 2 tablespoons olive oil
– 1 teaspoon salt
* minced garlic
* dried rosemary

In a small bowl add 1 cup warm water, the salt, and the yeast.  Stir that up and let it hang out for 10-15 minutes.
In the meantime, in another bowl, combine the flour, olive oil, salt and any additions of your choice (I used minced garlic and dried rosemary).
Mix everything in both bowls together until you’ve got a nice little ball. Cover with saran wrap and cover. Let it rise for 5 minutes or however long you want.
Roll that baby out and pile it with whatever toppings you like.  I used tomato sauce, mortadella, spicy salami, mozzarella, parmesan and then added fresh tomatoes and arugula too.  I love arugula on pretty much anything.  Spinach is soooo last season.
Bake at 450 degrees F (230 degrees C) for 15 – 20 minutes.
Voila!

Nom nom nom crab cakes

I got these killer crab cakes in my S.P.U.D delivery this week. They are from Daily Catch in Vancouver and they were tasty, tasty, tasty!! I’m not usually someone who has a lot of pre-prepared food in the house. But…I am pretty sure I’ll be ordering these again. They took practically no time to cook and made for a pretty gourmet lunch.

The Face Magazine

I’ve been getting more and more writing gigs as of late.  I love it!  I really enjoy interviewing people and being able to write and learn about new topics.

Check out this article I wrote for The Face magazine.  It’s called “Face Forward: The “Eyes” Have It”.  It’s about the risks associated with eyestrain (especially when driving) and what you can do to avoid it.

I’ll have two articles in their next issue so keep your eyes peeled! 🙂
